BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH.
PROJECT RUNWAY is a fashion based show in America. In specific words, it is a fashion designer show. The show debut on the late year of 2004. The show runs for one hour. PROJECT RUNWAY is hosted by the very beautiful and very famous model from the United States, Heidi Klum. The show also has a mentor, Tim Gunn. The show also has incredibly fashionable judges that also includes Heidi Klum together with Nina Garcia, the Fashion Director of Elle Magazine, Michael Kors, a successful fashion designer in the United States. On certain days, there will be guest judges such as Vera Wang, Nicky Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Alberta Ferretti and many more.
The show starts off by conducting auditions throughout the United States in several cities. During the auditions, the judges are Tim Gunn, and designers from the previous season of the show. Although during the audition there are a lot of “not so talented” designers, the judges has to stay focused to only pick those who has the talent and are qualified to be a part of the show.
Then the contestants list comes down to 12. Each week they are given different tasks. One week they may be given cash to buy their materials and work on their designs, but at times they are also given tasks such as using materials from used materials. For example, contestants are only needed to use materials from sofas, curtains, bed sheets, recycled items and many more. Normally, contestants are given two days to complete their design unless their needed to design more than one. On the second day, models who were picked by the designers are brought in to the fittings. Once the fittings are over, models are brought down to get their make up and hair done. The make up and hair dressings are sponsored by LOREAL. Accessories are also given to add glamour to the design.
Later that night, the runway show starts. That’s when the judges come in to judge on the designs. Then the designers are called onto the runway and one by one name will be called. At that moment, its only up to the almighty judge; Heidi Klum, to decide whether or not the called out names to remain on the runway or to go off to backstage. Those names who were told to stay on the runway, either are the safe ones from being sent home or has the worst design of the day and the best designer of the day. If the ones who remained on the runway and represents the worst and the best, they will be evaluated on the designs and it comes down to point where the winner of the week will be crowned and the worst will be sent home immediately. These process continues the same till it reaches the day where there’s only three designers, the final three.
These designers are then allowed to go back home to come up with a complete design line. These designers are given three months to do so, together with a cash amount of eight thousand(US DOLLARS). During this time, Tim Gunn goes visiting to each of the designers homes. This is to check on their progress for the runway show. He also gives them advises on the designs done. After the duration of the three months is over, the designers are back down to the “big apple” for the very glamorous and prestigious fashion week, the New York Fashion Week which is held at the Bryant Park. There the designers are off to strut their complete line of twelve designs each. Later that day, once again the judges to their job wisely and pick the right winner. The winner gets his or her hands on the grand prize that includes cash to start their very own fashion line!
