TV Show > The Oprah Winfrey Show

Recognize the lady in the picture?

Of course you do! Voted as one of the most powerful and influential women by CNN, The American Spectator and TIME, Oprah Winfrey is a living legend. Oprah was originally named Orpah, but everybody tend to put the P before the R resulting her to be better known as Oprah. Orpah Gail Winfrey was born on the 29th of January 1954 to unmarried parents. Oprah was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighbourhood. Her grandmother thought her to read before the tender age of 3. Oprah has certainly suffered a lot and gone through a traumatizing childhood. She was molested by her cousin, her uncle and a family friend when she was 9, besides becoming pregnant at 14. Unfortunately, her son died a few weeks after birth. She was sent to live with her father in Tennessee, who made her education a priority above everything else. And she did make him proud by becoming an honors student. Oprah was in the media scene since her senior year of high school doing the news part time for WVOL, a local black radio station.

Before The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah was hosting a low-rated talk show, AM Chicago. Even then, Oprah was already working her magic with the society. She manage to bring the show from last place in ratings all the way to the highest rated talk show in Chicago. In 1986, the show was deservedly renamed to The Oprah Winfrey Show and was broadcast nationwide. On The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah talks about anything and everything, from health to relationship to food and what not. Oprah has came a looong way from where she has been to inspire and motivate each one of us to be strong and never to give up.

That's all for now peeps.
Cheers,
Amelia. xx
