Background of Glee, The Club That Sang It All.
Glee is a multiple award winning new comedy hit series from the United States. It is created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and was first envisioned as a film instead before it is adapted into a television show format. It is now the season’s number one running hit series around the world where it attracts nearly 14 million viewers throughout the globe. One of the main reasons why this 2010 Golden Globe Award winning musical/comedy series is able to be such a huge success is because it has one the most interesting and never before seen plots which catches the eyes of young viewers age 18 to 49. Glee strikes us greatly with its superior musical hits and people love it this way because it mixes both great music and entertainment in a funny yet anticipating series which is of something not seen in usual musical shows. Other than that, this genre-defying comedy also comes with a great epic yet interesting plot with a mix of a romance flick and a twist of characters which makes it even more addictive especially to youngsters which contributes mostly to the media world nowadays.
This story mainly revolves around the fictional Mckinley’s High school glee which once used to rule the show choir world. Now it is nothing but a sanctuary for social pariahs and misfits. A young and optimistic Spanish teacher by the name of Will Schuester played by Matthew Morrison takes on the challenge to rebuild Glee Club’s reputation and to take it to the Nationals. However, this proves rather hard when a nasty cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester ,plays havoc to the club and tries to drag it from making a name for the school and taking the fame of her cheerleading squad. The problem continues as the club doesn’t have a good cooperation from the principle plus a bunch of ragtag performers with various kinds of attitudes ranging from nerds to popular high school student to football quarterbacks joins the club. Considering the challenges faced by the club, the highly-spirited Will, stops at nothing to brush up the young talents and to achieve what he came for which is to be able to compete at National levels.
Aside from all the fun-filled based storyline this show aims to show that not only the fame and glorious are able to take on the stage. Those unknown talents out there should be given a chance to show their capabilities. There are also many moral values that can be taken into account in this show such as life should be taken seriously and honestly and originality proves to be the best policy. On the other hand, Glee also plays us a great selection of oldies and interesting music sang with great modern yet artistic styles. This serves to be able to fuse young generation with oldies which they haven’t even heard of and create an awareness that these cultural treasures shouldn’t be left forgotten in due time.
Objectives of Choosing Glee
The objective here is to see how a television based program such as Glee can affect society culturally. As of known, Glee is an award winning television series which manage to draw a huge crowd of viewers throughout the world irrespective of races and religions. Being such a successful hit, the impact on the viewers and the society has to be gigantic.
Since such a huge amount of people are hooked on to it, they are partly being influence in ways of dressing, school culture, types of music listened and so on. These kind of social influence can come in petite forms which is sometimes unnoticeable. It may not have a direct change but it will sure do in due time. For instance, since Glee has been aired, schools in many states of the US have begun promoting stage choirs as ways of rebuilding the culture. Even songs from the series are being played in radios and advertisements on televisions. The impact is so great that not even youngsters but even adults are singing the song just anywhere. The influence might not be drastic might it is surely noticeable.
However, this could prove to be dangerous too if it is not controlled. For example, if the cast and actors in the show would to dress obscenely or if they would have used choir based performances just as a sort of competition and a place to show off, in reality, people might just misinterpret it and joins it for the wrong cause. Or if the show would to have some political issue or a gimmick behind it than everyone watching it would just fall right for it without knowing what the danger is since the influence is so strong. Not just that, even now, the very message that this show is trying to give might turn out the other way around. People might not know what embarrassment is, they won’t know how bad they actually sing and they might just go and land themselves on the stage and act like a complete idiot. Social influence can be said is one of the most important issue these days. It can make not only one but a whole world to do as you like by just as simple as singing a song.
